Aubrey O’Day has been busy since being fired from P. Diddy’s girl group, Danity Kane. Her first movie, “American High School,” is out on DVD April 7, she graced the cover of the March issue of Playboy magazine, and she’s looking forward to future successes. In O’Day’s first movie, she plays a bad girl, Hilary Weiss, who’s making a play for Prom Queen and Gwen Adams’ husband. Yes, even though it’s set in high school, two seniors, played by Jillian Murray and “Laguna Beach’s” Talan Torriero, are newlyweds. Hilary makes life a bit difficult for Gwen as she struggles with newlywed life while still in high school. And it probably doesn’t help that the high school is filled with sexually-charged and ridiculous teachers (such as Playboy playmate Nikki Ziering) and immature boys (one who is played by Brian Drolet from season one of “The Hills”).
“I think that bad girls are just good girls who have more fun!” O’Day said in an exclusive interview with CNS about her character, Hilary. And does she think a marriage, like the one in the movie, where a couple marries young, can last a lifetime?
“Anything is possible!”
O’Day is familiar with rehearsing lines and performance anxiety – she played Amber Von Tussle, the snobby villian, in “Hairspray” on Broadway from July 18 to August 31 of last year.
“The movie wasn’t really scripted; it was mostly improv,” O’Day said. “So, every take was always a little different. I got to play more, create more and make choices more than I [got to do] on Broadway.”
“Making the movie was fun, and all we want is for people to have fun watching it,” she continued. “It’s a fun comedy. It’s silly, and obviously a large stretch from anything we normally experience in high school.”
O’Day is used to being the center of attention by now. She was on the reality series “Making the Band 3″ and “Making the Band 4,” before getting kicked out of the music group Danity Kane. But that just gave O’Day the opportunity to shine in the spotlight even more.
“Playboy approached me a few times and I turned it down, as Danity Kane was my first priority,” O’Day said. “And after I was fired, they came back, and I felt ready.”
However, O’Day doesn’t bare all in the mag, but really, it’s not such a bad thing, she thinks, “I didn’t feel it was necessary to bare all, [everyone] always should leave something to the imagination.”
That doesn’t mean she hasn’t bared a lot, though. While on reality TV, her emotions, hopes and everything else she confessed in the confessional was for all of America to see.
But O’Day has no regrets about anything that was filmed. “I love reality TV and sharing my life with the world,” she said. “The good, bad and ugly. Hopefully I will continue sharing through reality TV.”
It looks as though O’Day has moved on to bigger and better things since Danity Kane. Even though she is mum about what her future projects are, she is still busy.
“You’ll see me in them when they come out!” she said.
